What is Revision Rhinoplasty?

San Diego revision rhinoplasty is a procedure employed when further surgery is required on the nose. This type of nose surgery is often required to repair a botched surgery, or correct irregularities or hide scars form previous surgeries. San Diego rhinoplasty today is much more effective than what it was 10 years ago. Certain technologies employed now were not available years ago, when many people first had nose reshaping surgery. Because of a lack of expertise and outdated surgical techniques, many San Diego nose job patients from over a decade ago have experienced weakening, and mutations of the nasal structures – case in point, Michael Jackson. Think back to when he first got his nose job. It may have suited him for a while, but as time progressed, his nose got weaker, and more deformed-looking. This is exactly the type of situation where revision rhinoplasty comes into practicality.

Some important things to think about when considering revision rhinoplasty in San Diego are how the nose looks now, what exactly is the issue or problems that need to be repaired and if they in fact can be corrected, what kind of scarring is involved, and what the expectations of the patient are.

A San Diego cosmetic surgeon who specializes in revision rhinoplasty will be able to address all these issues. He or she should be specially trained in the field, have much experience, and be able to communicate with you how the procedure will be performed, and what to expect before, during, and after the surgery. Your expectations are key. If satisfaction is not achieved the first time, then more extensive surgery will be required. For example, a patient may bring in a photo of a celebrity and demand an identical nose, and later find that this type of nose does not complement their other features and overall facial aesthetic. It is important to talk with your doctor in order to achieve both satisfying and realistic results.

It is rare that a recent rhinoplasty surgery requires extensive revision work, unless something has gone wrong. Sometimes, patients accidentally cause damage to themselves after the surgery, or are for some reason unsatisfied with the end results. In this case, very small irregularities can be fixed fairly easily and inexpensively on an outpatient basis. More extensive work will require more surgery at more costs. That is why it is important to work with your doctor to get the right results the first time.

Breast Augmentation in San Diego: Silicone vs. Saline Implants

Board Certified San Diego plastic surgeon and breast augmentation surgery expert Dr. Maurice P. Sherman often answers many questions related to breast augmentation, enlargement, enhancement, reduction, reconstruction, and San Diego breast lift surgery. Often, the most discussed topic in breast augmentation surgery is what type of San Diego breast implants to choose. The popular choices tend to fluctuate between saline and silicone implants.

Most implants have some form of outer silicone rubber shell, but they are filled either with silicone gel, or saline (the same type of salt water which is found in I.V. fluids). Variations of silicone and saline implants usually have to do with whether they are filled before or during the operation. Some types of saline implants can be adjusted even after the operation.

Saline implants, which were officially approved for San Diego breast augmentation surgery by the FDA in 2000, have some advantages and disadvantages over silicone breast implants which were FDA-approved in November, 2006. While all implants have some risk of slipping or rupturing inside the body, some argue whether saline or silicone implants are safer in this type of situation.

Breast implants which are filled with saline are easily detected if they rupture. Since it is filled with liquid, if it breaks the implant deflates, noticeable almost instantaneously, and the salt water inside simply gets absorbed into the surrounding tissues inside the body.

Some San Diego breast enlargement patients say that in terms of the look and feel of the augmented breasts, silicone gel offers a more natural look and feel because it is more similar in texture to breast tissue. However saline implants can be more easily altered after surgery, depending on the needs of the patient. If a woman decides that her saline implants are too big, she can ask her doctor to simply subtract some liquid, via small valves and a long needle. Silicone implants’ size cannot be changed without another operation and a newly made implant.

The best way to determine which San Diego breast enhancement procedure is right for you is to schedule a consultation with a qualified and board-certified plastic surgeon in your area. Dr. Sherman practices all forms of aesthetic plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures, serving San Diego, La Jolla, Encinitas, and Del Mar, California.
